I think a reason to not trust that is that you can make the same argument about neurons. Like if you were building humans out of biological neurons, maybe you started out by streaming together some like neurons grown in addition and just a few of them. I think it's just very, very likely that, that kind of digital minds can be conscious in the sense that I care about. But people are gonna have trouble with it on that level.
