Introduction
Lachlan McNemey is an assistant professor of political science at UCLA and a lecturer of politics at Monash University in Australia. He has recently published the book, Settling for Less, Why States Colonize, and Why They Stop. I define colonization as a process of state building involving the displacement of indigenous peoples by settlers. So it was coined to describe the process where Roman Empire would annex new territories would send farmers to claim that area on behalf of the state.
