The first Hot Wheels toys with rubber tires were introduced in 1981. They had painted hubs and they had thinner axles all the thinner axles primarily to give them more speed. The line was halted in 1987 because it just cost so much to make those toys. And that's when things start getting shipped overseas and that whole Shanghai operation starts kicking.
