The Role of Story in Shaping Our Understanding of the Biblical Narrative

A Bible study on the Book of Ruth had a profound impact on my understanding. For the first time I started to understand the place of the kinsman Redeemer and the overarching story of the Bible. That month began to erode my image of the Bible as 66 different books, building instead a picture of a holy god who from the beginning of time had been relentlessly pursuing the people that he loved. As Sally Lloyd-Dunes puts it, there are lots of stories in the Bible but all the stories are telling one big story. The story of how God loves his children and comes to rescue them.
