Arthur Frank Payne's opinion was that Crawley and Helen were morons, laboring under an oppressive and superiority complex. He wrote that if Crawley had been given protection, shelter, food, and clothing, he would have been a docile person. Some believe Crawley was born bad and was destined for a life of crime while others believe he was a victim of society,. Such as his parents abandoning him causing him to hate cops. But I say it's probably his brother's death.
