The Importance of Nature in Art

In episode 16, Danto has a pretty severe and I think dead on critique about the notion that art is mimetic. So he says, we can't look for the idea of the beautiful or making aesthetic judgment about how realistic something is in nature. And so when a really good artist represents a scene in nature, you have an aesthetic reaction to it that would be somehow similar to the real thing. The connection not to the pure form, but to the generative aspect that is underneath it.
