Emergency Medicine Cases

CHAPTER

The Cardiovascular Physiology of an Old Adult Trauma Patient

Dr. Haas: One of the biggest challenges with trauma in older adults is that we're trained to think about things that cause death in young adults when we think of trauma. Even if they look perfectly stable in the emergency department, we have to as a team think what are they going to need tomorrow? And that's what saves their life, not only what we do in the trauma bay. That's exactly why we have an intensivist and a surgeon and a geriatrician on the podcast to kind of help us through that entire voyage or trip or journey of that older patient after they have trauma.
