The Valley of Hell in the Old Testament
The Old Testament describes hell as a place where children, innocent children, were slaughtered on behalf of the gods. By Jesus' day, because of its history, it had, we think, become a garbage dump with refuse burned 24 hours a day. The life to come is a continuation of who you are now and the life that you are living into in the here and now. If you don't want to live that way now, the odds would really not be good for you forever.
