Trotsky and Stalin
Trotsky was Lenin's main competitor for second most important, after Lenin. Stalin wanted to be in charge while Trotsky was happy to be part of a working power structure. He never lost faith in communism but thought it had perverted it and made it tyrannically bureaucratic. His influence inside the Soviet Union was zero; his remaining family in Russia were killed.
