i only really began to understand that when i thought about it through historic metaphor. There's an equivalent to the lead in the lead paint, and it's the business model. If you want to deal with the te component of the attention crisis, more than anything else, you've got to do one thing: band the current business model. That is just fundamentally immoral. And we can have social media that isn't designed to maximimly invade our attention. But if you move to a subscription or some other form of public ownership, well, suddenly they're not going to go hack dan scrowling as much as possible.
