You first become aware of a product when you see it in a store. So your ability to see anything else that happened before that moment with that product is sort of severed by consumerism. There's marketing materials at the time, people talking about advertising where they said under no circumstances should people know how clothes are made. And that has only become easier over time with offshoring, moving so much of production to other countries.

Paris Marx is joined by Amanda Mull to discuss the history of consumerism and where ecommerce goes in the next few years as interest rates rise and its market share stalls.
