PTSD - What's the Processing Thing?
Edgar Jones: Traumatic memories are not things that a person can successfully block out. You don't have volitional control on those painful memories so they can surprise you. It's almost as if you were there, almost a photographic memory or a smell or sound. The argument is that in this heightened emotional state, when you see or experience something highly traumatic, you do not have the capacity to process it.
