The Unconscious Bias of Free Will
The problem is that we think of freedom as license. We're wild and crazy. We have a choice. And then based on how much free will the pastor assumes the congregation has to exercise, he will then seek to bind that with rules, conditions, relation. I mean, like dig a fence line. Hand people in. The other position to start from is that you assume that people's wills are bound and they need to be set free. So either you believe people are basically free and their will needs to be bound or you believe that there will is bound when they walk in the door and your job is to set their will free.
