The Problem of Marriage in Trial

In the crisis of nothingness and dullness, the eternal element is God, not the ego. Love now says, I will love you always, for you are lovable through eternity for God's sake. The other person becomes less the necessary condition of passion and more the partner of the soul. If we are selfish, we have to get rid of the other partner because he or she is a burden. That brings us to this other problem of marriage in trial, namely when marriage becomes a cross.
