Political Romanticism - A Critical Criticism of Modern Liberalism
Schmidt defines romanticism as a type of occasionalism. Occasionalism denies calculable causality, and thus also every binding norm. Romanticism isn't just smelling the flowers or admiring mediaeval castles. Nor is it tradition or in opposition to established power. Oakes is not wholly wrong when he says that political romanticism is a critique of metaphysical and meta political basis of modern liberalism.
