In the last five years at least nine children have died in unregistered and unexpected placements. At least four of those deaths were children who killed themselves, including a 13 year old boy. The Department for Education admits they don't actually know how many children have ended up in unregistered unregulated accommodation. They just don't collect that data. So where are all the children going? When they're out of options they sometimes send children to Scotland.
