Benedict's enemies hated him and the longer his lavish and wild behavior went on, the more they wanted him gone. So they decided to attempt to assassinate him. He could no longer hold the chair or sniff it. Can't sniff what you can't hold. And all the things, it feels like he's pushed it too far. But also people are thinking, if I get that job, then I get to be powerful. There is a slight conflict of interest.
