The New French State
France was split into two during the Second World War. One part under german occupation, the other part is nominally independent. The government decides that it wants to be in the unoccupied zone. They could decide where they wanted to have the government seat. So everybody moves from bordeaux. They go to vichi. It's also come to mean the part of french territory that was not initially occupied by german troops.
