The Mystery Religion of Mithra
There are no surviving texts of Mithraism and everything we know is extrapolated from archaeological evidence found while excavating their temples. According to Manly P. Hall, Mithraism originated in Persia and found its way into southern Europe. It appears to have been wiped out due to persecution by Christians during the fourth century AD.
