The idea of believing the laws of physics that you believe are true is one that applies in many different sets of circumstances. We say, if they continue to be true in other regimes, that it implies this other stuff, right? So four dimensional space time outside the black hole would be part of that. Of course, again, it's not exactly the same in this case because in the black hole, you can just see it directly.
