The Importance of Donkeys in Our Aging Activities
I believe that donkeys are really social creatures. So their survival absolutely depends on them picking up social and behavioural cues from other donkeys but also other animals. I think they are incredibly good at interpreting body language and intent. They will certainly know if you have had a bad day. They might know if you are feeling particularly stressed. They pick up on all kinds of cues from us. Can we ever be our friends or will they remain a kind of servant class with whom we have an uneasy history? Well I mean we could bring another philosopher, we could bring in Donna Haraway here who has a whole theory of the sort of kinship that we have with animals. And she is interested
