The Different Types of Verse

In Chinese culture, at least, especially after the Tang dynasty, you had basically any government, any of the officials would also be poets. So in China and Japan, it was expected that a well-educated gentleman would be able to produce verse. We're so used to this idea of muses, but the ancient Greek muses are pretty funny. They make fun of humans, you miserable wretches. And then they say, and we can say true or false things, however we feel. The most sophisticated old Irish poetry is frankly baffling to me anyone can produce it.
