The Buddha's Precept of Killing

In order to kill another being, you would need to have a certain amount of hate in the mind. This is one of the three poisons or unwholesome roots that we call it. By having anger, hatred and ill will, and putting that out into the world, not just through killing, but through other things as well,. then that hatred, that anger, or that ill will is going to come back to us. So what you're doing by practising this precept, your cultivating this loving kindness and compassion in the mind for all living beings - so that you live in a way that doesn't cause harm to others.
