Maccabeus's Invasion of Judea
Ptolemy appointed Nichenor, son of Patroclus, in command of 20,000 Gentiles to wipe out the whole race of Judea. He determined to make up for the king that tribute due to the Romans 2,000 talents by selling the captured Jews into slavery. Maccabeus gathered his men together and exhorted them not to be frightened by the enemy but to fight nobly.
