The Presence of God in the Temple

God dwells in that temple or specifically in the innermost part of that temple. So you certainly can't just go into where he lives and you'll die. You got to tell your rope around the guy who goes in there once a year to perform a certain sacrifice. And this is how things functioned for 500 years. Then it is a very troubling thing in 586 B.C. The Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians come along and destroy the temple.
