Poplar, Constable, and the Science of Art
John Constable's Ascii Prejud's Convention is published by Simon & Schuster this week. In the book, Gombridge speaks of Constable as engaging in scientific experiments. The artist appears to be drawing parallels between what a scientist is doing and what an artist like himself is doing. It doesn't mean that he's trying to get to a perfect representation,. Indeed, he says later on, being quoted, that he can't actually do this.
