Is There Ambivalence in Therapy?

As you are starting therapy and looking at your own story, there's something about that experience that is meeting a deeply unmet longing in you to be known. I think parts of my story closed down desire and longing for intimacy. It was very unsafe to consider that I could put within someone's hands a desire for them. And so to share something that I really longed to be held well and to be empathized with opened up a space that I had shut down a long time ago.
