Captain Forbes wrote an extensive memoir of this event. Almost the first thing he saw was a gruesome edifice, and I quote, in the center of the square was an octangular building adorned with 148 human skulls. This had been Aina's village. These had been her people. She had been regarding them every day. He watched a strange parade moving along an upper wall. There were people dressed all in white and tied hand and foot, who were being carried over the heads of warriors in these little baskets.
