She wanted to be a peace time surgeon for the united states. She sent an entire dacie of qualifications and recommendations, all these people saying glowing things about her. President johnson was so impressed by this dossier that he thought, well, hum, ok. He asked his secretary of war to look into the possibility of giving her a commission based on the information that she had sent him. The commissioner of war decided to punt and gave the assignment to general joseph holt. All those chickens kind of came home to roost, to tip the balance. And unfortunately, those never do wells that gave her the false test.
