In two thousand eight ecuador became the first country in the world to write rights of nature into its constitution. The law was framed around an indigenous quitua concept, harmonious living with ones, your community and the natural world. Ecuador's new rights of nature amendment was tested by all sorts of claims - big and small. We must continue teaching this to our children, in our youth for a better future because nowadays, virtually nobody cares for nature.
In several countries around the world, including Ecuador, New Zealand, and the U.S., some people are trying to protect the planet using a legal concept called “rights of nature” – infusing the law with Indigenous understandings of Mother Earth.
