The Relationship of a Man to a Woman
The body of a woman is now equated with the church itself, it has acquired a new dignity. Overcentreous assumptions about sex begin to change and when you change ideas around sex, marriage soon follows. In the Roman world, in the various barbarian kingdoms that are planted on the ruins of the Roman Empire, it's taken for granted that clan chiefs have the right to pair off their children pretty much as they wish. This is anathema to the church because if the husband is to be compared to Christ and the woman is to be compare to the church, then Christ must choose the church and the church must choose Christ. They can't be kind of brought together by some
