The Rydale Horde: A Portrait of Marcus Aurelius
The Rydale horde is a collection of four objects from the Roman Empire. The first object, an Imperial Scepter head bust was probably made in Britain. Marcus Aurelius reigned between 161 and 180 AD so he ruled for almost 20 years. It would have sat atop a scepter or priestly staff used during religious rituals associated with the Imperial cult.
