Allinats podcast. Allan watts' father was an early pioneer in the use of mind expanding substances, generally called psychodelics. He tried mescaline with a doctor, and got what he described as aesthetically pleasing results,. However, another researcher gave him lsd 25, and that produced what he later described as a religious experience. By the mid sixties, it was obvious that the street acid that was going around was not quite the same thing as what he'd experienced in the labs. A few years later, he would come to say that they could be useful tools, but once you got the message, it was good to hang up the phone.
