Investigators discovered that the activation of the master caution was triggered by a malfunction in the rudder travel limiting unit. The crew had stall recovery training, but only in high pitcha des and not in attitudes near zero degrees of pitch. So th t they may not have been able to fully recognize the stall situation and recover from it. They were pancaking flat down yecase hey had slowed down so much.
