The Pressure on Bangladeshi Factory Owners

20% of brands are reported to be purchasing from factories that struggle to pay minimum wages. Around 3.6 million Bangladeshi's are directly employed by the garment sector. Almost a quarter of them are on the lowest pay, taking home just 8,000 takas or 75 US dollars a month. Inflation is running at over 9% and unions say that the minimum wage needs to go up to 23,000 Taka.
