Is There a Relationship Between the Mind and the Brain?

The mind uses the brain as an instrument to think, just as a pianist uses a piano to play music. But philosophically, it's very difficult to reduce the mind to the brain and say they are identical because properties of matter and properties of the mind are so different. The same problem also shows up when we try to explain how the brain can produce something radically different than itself. Perhaps things of re are not just quantitative particles in motion. Maybe there's a different form of metaphysics other than this mechanistic view.
