Creatine was first isolated a long time ago in 1832. There were feeding experiments on animals suggesting that creatine was absorbed when consumed and that absorption exceeded excretion. The fate of it wasn't fully known until 1912, which is when we kind of knew with a reasonably high degree of confidence that creatine intake increased body creatine levels.
