You Say One Thing, but You Do Another
In the old testament, priests who were serving in the temple had a stricter level of holiness. The pharisees thought it would be amazing if we could get the same level of Holiness in the temple and every house. So they took these priestly requirements and said that everybody who wanted to see the messiah come again had to have these same standards. They got up with the symbols of faithfulness instead of the substance of faithfulness which was to god himself.
