Italy's Invasion of Africa
Black New Yorkers formed a coalition with white anti-fascists who were opposed to the Mussolini dictatorship in Italy. One black American pilot, trained aviator, volunteered his services and was ultimately named commander of the small Ethiopian Air Force. Lots of Italian Americans did oppose Mussolini in his invasion, but many others, including New York's mayor, Fierrela LaGuardia, actually supported him.
