Beethoven's Theme Is Incredibly Compact Harmonically
The movement is incredibly compact harmonically. As more and more instruments are added, the music begins to acquire momentum. We have been completely drawn into this new world, but beethoven magically takes us out of it with a theme of ineffable sweetness. I can't get the image of soldiers returning home out of my head in this movement.
