The Role of Design in Organizations

A lot of the design leaders I've spoken to are getting kind of squeezed in their ability to bring that kind of abstract craft. We have to remember that design is still a fairly new function within organizations. If the only tool that you have available to understand a problem is an Excel spreadsheet, you're going to be gravitating towards solutions that can be answered by an Excel spreadsheet. Anywhere that Excel is being used, you could probably also use design approaches as a bounce to whatever Excel is bringing to it and organize your ideas.
