The Bifurcation of the Tibial Nerve

The sciatic nerve is deep to the artery. It's a great spot for a catheter especially for foot and ankle procedures that involve prolonged pain in patient stays. Popliteal blocks can be used with epinephrine which will cause vasoconstriction and decrease vascular uptake of the local anesthetic. If you're looking for post-operative analgesia then the single shot doesn't have to last as long and we don't need motor block aid so you may go with a lower concentration at that point.
