The Roman Empire and the Rise of Christianity

Christian allegiance to Jesus as Lord threatened Rome's hegemony. Tacitus again called Christians haters of humankind because they refused to participate in Roman cultural norms. The gospel was especially threatening to the Roman elite who did not see the gospel as compatible with Roman culture. And number four, the early Christians viewed their faith as ultimate and exclusively true which threatened the popular pluralism of the day.
