The Role of Dopamine Fasting in Reducing Addictions
Dopamine fasting is when we identify what our drug of choice is and cut it out for four weeks. We reset reward pathways, which allows us to enjoy other more modest rewards. And then after four weeks, if we decide we want to go back to using that drug, we can use self binding strategies to create both literal and metacognitive barriers between ourselves and the drug of choice. The last thing is a homeysis that is to say intentionally inviting pain into our lives as a way to get our dopamine by paying for it upfront.
