What Is Floculent Rain?
The energy source is from the inside of the earth, up welling magma. When a whale dies and sinks to the sea bed, it then stimulates a whole eko system to build up around the carcass. And you've also got a phenomen called marine snow. So when there's productivity in the surface, you then have a big, long lag for it to settle out. It gets eaten by various organisms, turned into feces. The feces then get broken down by fungy and bacteria, and you end up with this floculent rain that comes down and settles on te deep sea.
