Xenophon's Anabasis
Xenophon's account of the Battle of Kunexa was used by many Greeks as proof that they could defeat Persia. The 10,000 soldiers were not picked troops but mercenaries who couldn't live in their own countries. Many speakers would use this to argue for a Greek crusade against Persia. Some scholars say Xenophon may have inspired Philippa Macedon to believe he could take on a much larger Persian army.
