The Importance of Hierarchy in Writing
I think it's, yeah, because we have this need to classify and rank and get into hierarchies. I will not get on my soapbox about how we're educated to receive a number from someone else that says how well we've done. And yes, it's valuable to know if you've learned something or not. But I think that it's so internalized that we forever are trying to figure out where we fit in the hierarchy. This happens in writing as well. It's like, oh, there's, you know, people who write nonfiction. Then even people who write fiction can say, well, I just write cozy mysteries."
