CHAPTER

The Evolution of Matrilineal Societies

We often imagine male domination to be universal that the oppression of women exists in every single society on every single part of the earth and it has been like that for a very long time. The evidence just doesn't show that I only have one illustration in my book and it's a map of matrilineal societies, there are many of them all over the world. Why do we treat patriarchy as though it is somehow inevitable? It isn't a process of choosing it is a process of imposition and gradual kind of weeding its way into so many parts of the world through so many different mechanisms over many thousands of years.
