Titus Oathes went to a justice of the peace in westminster, and gave o testimony claiming that this conspiracy was afoot to kill and overthrow charles. The king questioned him and was not persuaded that he was telling the truth or had any real evidence. This falls into a long tradition of false conspiracy theories and forged documents purporting to reveal conspiracies against the state by the catholic church. And you can see incidents like this over and over again in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries,. things like the phony knights of columbus.
