Hospice and the Pandemic

Hospice in London was hit hard by the pandemic. Patients were dying of coved and staff got sick from self-discovery. Staff had to make decisions about whether to stock up on body bags or food. The hospice's mortuary couldn't be used because it didn't have access to pepier, which is a mask for people with breathing problems. And there wasn't any national guidance as to how you dealt with patients who died premature - even if they'd been ill all along. It felt like 'wrestling with an octopus', says one employee.
